Longtime Burlington resident Charles Albert Long passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, March 1, 2011. He was 50 years old. Charles was born on Feb. 19, 1961 in Tulsa, Okla., to Henry Lee and Alma Lee (Helt) Long. He was one of five children.
Charles grew up and attended school in Thornton and graduated from Highland High School in 1979. He then went on to receive his associate’s degree at Colorado State University.
On Aug. 28, 1982, Charles married Marilyn Jean Richardson in Burlington. To this union seven children were born; Jacob, Caleb, Naomi, Elias, Gideon, Ethan and Sarah.
Charles worked as a route delivery man for Frito Lay. He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church of Burlington and had numerous hobbies including; playing the guitar, physical fitness, hunting, fishing and writing. He was also an avid reader and even taught himself how to ride a unicycle.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Theresa Roath.
He is survived by his seven children; Jacob Long and his daughter Hannah of Burlington, Caleb Long of Fort Carson, Naomi Long and her son Dylan, Elias, Gideon, Ethan and Sarah Long all of Burlington. He is also survived by one brother Wally Long and his wife Sylvia of Mount Vernon, Mo.; three sisters, Debbie Long of Thornton, Carolyn Groninger and her husband Bob of Twisp, Wash. and Chanise Long of Aurora, his mother-in-law Delores Richardson of Burlington, two brothers-in-law Tim Richardson and Dave Richardson also of Burlington, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Charles will be held on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Burlington Community and Education Center with Pastor Ron Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Burlington. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Love Funeral Home in Burlington. Memorials may be made in Charles’ name in lieu of flowers to be used according to the wishes of the family and may be left at or sent to The Bank of Burlington, 410 14th St., P.O. Box 429 or Bank of the West, 502 14th St., P.O. Box 518, Burlington, CO 80807. Longtime Burlington resident Marilyn Jean Long passed away unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, March 1, 2011. She was 51 years old. Marilyn was born on March 22, 1959 in Burlington, to Wilbur and Delores Jean (McBride) Richardson. She was one of three children.
Marilyn grew up and at-tended school in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School in 1977. She then went on and received her bachelor's degree at Colorado State University. On Aug. 28, 1982, Marilyn married Charles Albert Long in Burlington. To this union seven children were born; Jacob, Caleb, Naomi, Elias, Gideon, Ethan and Sarah.
Marilyn was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Burlington and was very active in the Awana Club and the Home School Group. She also enjoyed cooking, reading, sewing, and most of all she enjoyed caring for her family. She was preceded in death by her father Wilbur Richardson.
She is survived by her mother Delores Richardson of Burlington, seven children; Jacob Long and his daughter Hannah of Burlington, Caleb Long of Fort Carson, Naomi Long and her son Dylan, Elias, Gideon, Ethan and Sarah Long all of Burlington.
